Hotel guest injured in Wednesday morning fire in Crystal Lake – Shaw Local

A hotel guest was taken to hospital following a fire early Wednesday at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Crystal Lake, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department said.

The Crystal Lake Fire Department responded to an activated fire alarm at 3:57 a.m. at the hotel, located at 600 Tracy Trail, according to a news release. The hotel manager also reported the smell of smoke and called 911.

Crystal Lake police arrived first and found an unconscious person in the room where the fire started, the statement said. The person was transported to an area hospital for an assessment of smoke inhalation injuries.

Two officers also inhaled smoke during the rescue and were treated and released at the scene, the statement said.

The building’s sprinkler and fire alarm systems activated, which helped save the life of the room’s occupant, the department said.

The origin of the fire appears to be the mattress and it is unclear how the fire started, according to the statement. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Crystal Lake Fire Department fire investigators.

Damage to the room and its contents is estimated at $25,000, the department said. The hotel remains open during the repairs.

No one else was injured.
